Total number of website in this world as of Nov 2011

According to Netcart the total number of websites surveyed till November 2011 is 525,998,433 as compared to 504,082,040 sites as surveyed in October 2011 as rise of 22 million (+4.3%).

The total number of active sites now stands at 172 million as per the survey. As we can see there has been a steep rise in the past few months in both the number of hostnames as well as the numer of active sites as more and more people are moving towards only presence.
